Building Our Sustainability Knowledge to Better Support Your Events

We’re committed to growing our understanding of sustainable event practices—and we know how important this is becoming for many of our clients.

While there’s no single, globally agreed-upon standard for measuring sustainability in conference venues, there are several well-established certifications and frameworks that venues can use to benchmark their efforts and demonstrate best practice. Some of the most widely recognised include:

  • ISO 20121 – Sustainable Event Management
  • BREEAM – Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method
  • Green Key – International eco-label for hospitality venues
  • EarthCheck – Certification for environmental and social sustainability
  • IACC Green Star – Tailored for members of the International Association of Conference Centres

Even venues without formal certification are increasingly tracking and reporting on key environmental indicators, such as:

  • Carbon footprint per delegate
  • Waste diversion and recycling rates
  • Energy and water consumption per event
  • Sustainable food and beverage sourcing
  • Access to public transport
  • Local community and biodiversity engagement

To deepen our expertise, we’ve recently completed a sustainability course delivered by 360 Consulting by Greengage. This training gave us a comprehensive environmental overview, including insights into the UN Sustainable Development Goals, IPCC reports, and the differences between Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. We also explored carbon offsetting and how to critically assess a venue’s sustainability claims.

This additional knowledge allows us to better evaluate the sustainability credentials of the venues we recommend—and to ask the right questions on your behalf.

If sustainability is a priority for your next event, please let us know from the outset. We’ll ensure that the venues we propose are aligned with your environmental goals and support your broader sustainability commitments.
