The Ray Dolby Centre – Cambridge

I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of a fantastic new event space in Cambridge recently – the Ray Dolby Centre. Not only does the venue offer excellent meeting and event facilities, but it is also a state-of-the-art research hub featuring advanced clean rooms for physics research. One of the most striking aspects of the building is its openness: the clean rooms have glass walls, allowing delegates and members of the public to observe scientists at work.

Part of the Cavendish Laboratory, Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge, the Ray Dolby Centre has been designed as a welcoming and accessible space for the wider community. The public wing includes the Cavendish Museum and the Cavendish Café, creating a lively, engaging environment where science and community meet.

Event & Meeting Spaces

The meeting and event spaces are available to hire and include:

  • Ray Dolby Auditorium – 407 capacity, tiered seating with writing tablets
  • Lecture Theatre – 120 capacity, tiered classroom-style seating
  • Cluster Room – 80 capacity, tiered cluster-style seating
  • Seminar East & West – two flat-floor breakout rooms that combine to hold 120 theatre-style (55–60 individually). Can also be set in U-shape (16 each / 28 combined), classroom (24 each / 48 combined) or boardroom style (16 each)
  • Seminar North – flat-floor breakout room for 40 classroom or 22 boardroom (tables fixed in the room)

Catering and Exhibition Space

The meeting rooms surround an impressive central atrium, with a range of exhibition and catering spaces spread across three floors. When combined, the spaces can comfortably support catering and exhibition areas for up to 400 delegates alongside events in the Ray Dolby Auditorium.

To complement the in-house café, the Centre has partnered with Cambridge Dining Company to offer a delicious selection of catering options for both daytime events and evening receptions.

A Fresh Addition to Cambridge’s Event Landscape

The Ray Dolby Centre is an inspiring setting for conferences, training, exhibitions and academic events — combining cutting-edge science with thoughtfully designed, flexible event spaces. It’s wonderful to see Cambridge gain another high-quality venue, and we’re excited to support clients looking to host memorable events in this unique and forward-thinking environment.

If you’d like more information or would like us to check availability for your next meeting or event, we’d be delighted to help.
