The Granta Centre closed during the pandemic – but has recently partially reopened.
Granta Centre is part of The Welding Institute (TWI) and is based in Granta Park, close to Great Abington. The upper levels of what was the Granta Centre are now office space (currently empty), but the 2 lecture rooms are now available for external use again. The Centre has plenty of parking spaces.
The Lecture Rooms are on the lower ground floor so do not have natural daylight. The rooms can hold up to 300 theatre style when combined. Separately the rooms hold: Lecture Room 1 – 200 theatre style, Lecture Room 2 – 100 theatre style.
Lecture Room 1 – has a built-in camera that can be used to film the speakers for hybrid conferences. Both rooms have built in projectors and screens.
The TWI Café is next door to the Lecture Rooms, and this has views and doors that open out onto the cricket pitch. Anyone that knows the Granta Centre of old this is the same area that was used for catering previously. The only difference is that the space is now separated from the atrium (which is now part of the offices). This area can be used by delegates who will be given a designated space in the café. For larger numbers they now use an area called “The Street” which again is not completely private, but it is a large corridor that has the history of the TWI along the wall and has floor to ceiling windows.
This is a great space for those wanting a larger meeting space than many of the central venues can provide.
